Entire world is turning up against immigration. It is beyond individual/group control to lobby for changes in that area.
It is on the threshold of the time. Right now we as individuals still can make a decision to continue to be in US and wait it out or go back to our home country.
But if this trend continues, I am afraid, some new law will make that decision for us to send us all back. It is just around the corner. Worst part is we can't do a thing about that.
So want to blame anyone, blame your politicians of your native country for creating such a mess that people wanted to move to a different country.

My suggestion for everyone reading this is - do not send this information to your Company or HR department. They could ask us to table this additional cost. I work for Accenture so I hope that this does not apply to my employer with less than 50% employees on visa. But I'm not going to write to them asking about this because they may turn around asking us to eat this new cost.

I just got my H-1b renewed and no-one asked for the drivers license.
Maybe your lawyer's office just has a policy to ask for copy of everyones license for their records. Lots of professional buisnesses do this (physicians, lawyers' CPA's office etc.), but this is for their internal records and to be used in case of collection issues, for non-payment of their bills and such.

The following are the reason for Eb3 situation.
Anyone who have 3 year or 4 year degree can apply. So Other country also there is a demand. So it is nearly impossible to get other country quota. For a few thousand green cards atleast 100k persons might have applied till 2008 in EB3. So there is not much chance for improvement. It may move a few months to 2 years in 2009.If some bill is passed then most persons will get relief. But still some chances for recapture bill in house. But the reaction at Senate to be seen. Next year they may give a best attempt for CIR so that Congressmen will get a chance to do overtime also for hot news in Media. As usual CIR is unpredictable at best.
EB3 does not require a 4 year degree. It consists of people helping in cooking, full time baby sitters from third world countries, helpers in grocery stores, farm workers, nurses, etc as well. This is why the participation of EB3 folks here is very less and IV attracts only the technical work force. I would suggest a mass campaign to attract this crowd as well to IV for support. Even if they are brought, due to the low wage rate I do not think how much of contribution that will result for IV.

That is what my law firm told me. Just an FYI.. I did file my I485 in june. Today I called the law firm to check whether they got my Receipt number. That is when I was told this. I wish that is true. Usually they give accurate info. They even told me that July VB will be revised (within 10 days after the release.) So I wish this time also this becomes true so every one can be benifited.

I would say fight back against the indirect discrimination against the Indian and Chinese nationals in the employment-based immigration.
If they want us to leave..then so be it..but they should say so directly. All India and Chinese EB immigrants please leave USA. Until that comes out of the US government directly, we can not be forced out through indirect policies.
Here are a few things you can do:
1) Withdraw all the $ you deposited in US banks from savings, checking, CDs and other investment accounts and setup an NRE account with an indian bank and move funds over. If you need you can bring back those funds in a day or two. Leave only bare minimum for your expenses in US banks. This would have an impact of ~$50K X 100K effect.
2) Do not leave the country just because the hopes of greencard are controlled, sqeeze out every $ from your jobs and economy as long as you are here.
3) Spend minimum and buy swadeshi when possible. Lets not give back even 10% of the income we make back into the economy. This is an economic blockade.
USCIS and US government has long harassed Indians in the name of greencard for a longtime and year after year we hear the same BS. Come on people, show some self-respect and fight back.
4) Those who are in foreclosure, stop paying your mortgage, your home is going to get foreclosed anyway.
5) Despite all this...those who still decide to leave to India, max out all your credit cards, leave your car in airport and abandon your home/apt without paying rent/mortgage for the few months before you leave.
TAKE all you can from your hard-lived and harassed lives out of this place before you do decide to move.
I am not keeping more than 5K in any of my US banks starting today. I am also pulling back from my mortgage application for 300K condo. I am determined to sell-off my investments in equities here and begin investing in BSE.
That is the least I could do to peacefully protest against the discrimination against me and my country people.

I looked up the link http://judiciary.senate.gov/schedule.cfm and it indicates something else. However, there is a remote possibility that CIR might be discussed as one of the witness is congressman james Sensenbrenner who was the sponsor of the house bill. Lets keep fingers crossed:)

I applied 485 on July 25th,2007. Now can i travel outside of USA, or have to wait until i receive the receipt? Please help as soon as you can.

Hi all .. I am not writing this post to disagree with any one on any thing. I am very respectful of the members who participate this forum and write their suggestions/comments/ideas... Specially when I know people who are facing the same problem but do not make any efforts to solve it or join IV.
In the same lines .. my opinion , we probably need more followers and implementers who can direct IV core suggested plans.
Actively participating the Forum and visiting the web site regulary is one of the actions called for from Pappu (IV Core), you are all doing, I did that. There are other action items that need be implemented by who ever has ability, time and can direct others.
BOTTOM LINE, YOU FOLKS BRING UP INTERESTING IDEAS AND DEBATE TO THE FORUM .. PLEASE KEEP IT UP.

Hello 9years: Thanks for sharing the info all along. A quick question:
I got my EB2 Labor certified today, and now my lawyer is preparing EB2 140 as an interfile into my existing EB3 485.
Is this recommended or should we do regular premium 140 and request date porting once its approved?
If we do decide to do interfile now during 140 application. Is it advisable to do premium processing?

If you apply on premium processing then fees is huge, lot of money, if you apply before hand I mean 6 months back before the expiry of Visa, then not this much money as fees, last time I opted for premium processing.
